Experience the rarefied art of captured snow.
This image originates from a singular scientific process developed by microscopist Eric Erbe to study snow crystals at the microscopic scale. With his passing, this body of work will not be recreated. Artistic interpretations and photo editing by Victoria Weeks.
Nucleus: Every snow crystal has a particle around which it forms. In this case, the particle has dropped out of the center, leaving behind a literal and metaphoric hole.
